MARGAO: Carmona Panchayat on Monday granted NOC to the Tourism Department to install mobile toilets at Zalor Beach. It was a unanimous decision taken at a special meeting.
It may be recalled that the Zalor beach jurisdiction is under dispute and the Tourism Department had earlier obtained NOC from the Varca Panchayat to install mobile toilets. However, on June 26 when tourism officials visited the beach to install the toilets they were stopped by the locals who made them take back the same.
Carmona Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge said Varca’s claim over the beach is based on the basis of Form I & XIV which he alleged were manipulated during the survey process. He said the panchayat would file a writ petition before the High Court in the matter.
Stating that everybody knows and acknowledges that Zalor beach comes under Carmona’s jurisdiction, he lamented that the issue has been politicised only because of a hotel project that is proposed in the area.
He said the panchayat would support any development at Zalor beach provided the local body is taken into confidence. Allwyn said he would ask for four high rise arm lights to be installed at the beach.
