Several decades ago Kamraj introduced a scheme for retirement of old Congressmen. Today however, if the Kamraj plan is revived it will not work because politicians don’t retire anymore.
Rahul Gandhi has now come up with a better plan for old and young party men. If and when he returns, party men will be sent on prolonged sabbaticals. I endorse these sabbatical (though not the short types like the one to Brazil at Govt expense).
These sabbaticals have several benefits. Take the case of Rahul Gandhi. When he was ‘visibly’ canvassing across the length and breadth of the nation, nobody took any interest in him. Now invisible, he has aroused tremendous national interest. Perhaps Rahul Gandhi can best serve the party by canvassing for the party invisibly! Ditto all politicians, all parties!
