NSUI for probe into police-drug mafia nexus

The Goa National Students Union, which is one of the frontal organisations of the State Congress party, has demanded a thorough probe into the police-drug mafia nexus, especially by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and the Central Bureau of Investigation to unearth the hidden truth.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, President of Goa NSUI Sunil Kawthankar said NSUI, which at the national level is the frontal organisation of the India National Congress, was declaring a war against narcotics drugs and had decided to fight till a thorough probe began.
At the briefing, Kawthankar launched a signature campaign demanding the probe. He said they expected to get at least 25,000 to 30,000 signatures and the same would be forwarded to All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi, AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat.
Kawthankar warned that the students will come on the streets if probe was not initiated into the police-drug peddler’s nexus. “We will be most happy if the investigation is handed over to the NIA because NSUI believes the drug mafia operating in the State has links to terrorists,” he observed.
When questioned what he had to say into Home Minister Ravi Naik’s son’s name appearing in the Swedish media for his links with the drug trade in Goa, Kawthankar replied, “No one is above the law. If there is any political involvement in the matter then the probe will bring out the same.”
Kawthankar said he had serious doubts about those officers from the Crime Branch who were investigating the police-drug mafia nexus and called for investigation by agencies like Income Tax and Revenue Intelligence into their assets to find out if they had any disproportionate ones.
Speaking in the presence of some college representatives, the Goa NSUI President said the ill effects of the drug trade have spread into colleges and some students had fallen prey to the drug habit.
