According to Mapusa police, Neville Pinho from Shetyewado in Duler-Mapusa had complained that some person had withdrawn Rs 10,000 from his savings bank account by using his transaction details at an ATM counter at Taliwado-Mapusa on January 24 at about 1 pm.
Acting on the complaint, Mapusa police swung into action and managed to nab the accused.
During interrogation, the accused, Vikram alias Vickey Soni, confessed to the crime and admitted that he had been operating in various places in Goa.
“The accused used a unique modus operandi, wherein he would insert a pin/object in any button on the ATM machine panel so that the button remains pressed continuously. The machine would then hang and the user of the said ATM machine on insertion of ATM card would not be able to complete or cancel his transaction and thus move to the next machine,” stated a press release by North Goa SP Priyanka Kashyap.
“The accused would than clandestinely watch the customer loading his PIN code on another machine and thereafter immediately remove the pin/object from the locked switch and activate the earlier transaction. The accused would then easily load the PIN number and complete the pending transaction and then walk away with the cash.”
The accused was produced before JMFC Mapusa and has been remanded to four days police custody. Mapusa Police solved the case under the Supervision of PI Tushar Vernekar.
