“Pernem constituency is traditionally a BJP bastion and it was my seat. I I had developed the constituency which was a backward constituency. But after Pravin Arlekar quit MGP and joined BJP, naturally the party decided to field him from Pernem and I was asked to contest from Margao. I fought from Margao because party wanted to win both seats and increase our tally,” he said.

“If I had revolted against the party and contested from Pernem it would have affected party’s prospects in Pernem constituency,” he said.

He said he will concentrate to strengthen party’s organisation in Margao, and sure enough he would be suitably rewarded by the party for his sacrifice.
