MARGAO: Destruction of the seized cigarettes and how to make Goan villages and every ward in the State tobacco free were discussed at the meeting held this week to review the implementation of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).
It was observed that seizure of spurious cigarettes is on the rise and in Canacona recently two tempo loads of cigarettes were seized. The import of these foreign cigarettes has increased as the prices of cigarettes manufacture in Vietnam, Thailand and even China has dropped drastically making them quite cheap.
However, the authorities are seized with a major problem regarding disposal of these cigarettes as they cannot be burnt.
