PANJIM: The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has recommended the government to act against the operators of vehicles illegally being used as school transport.
The Commission, taking suo motu cognisance of a video where students were being cramped in a school bus, has also sought for constituting Children Safety Committee and Children Transport Committee.

“The above report (referring to the video) shows that the children are being transported to schools in a very hazardous manner, without taking into consideration the Goa Motor Vehicles (Regulations for School Buses) Rules, 2015), as well as the fact that such situations can lead to suffocation and affect the health and safety of the children and flouting of COVID-19 precautionary measures,” reads a letter by Commission Chairperson Peter Borges to the Departments of Transport, Education and Traffic.
Borges has requested the officials of the three departments to disclose on affidavit immediate as well as permanent measures taken to ensure the safety of children going to schools, to look into vehicles illegally operating as school transport.
