PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC) members on Monday highlighted the government’s failure to replenish the dilapidated roads through its programme ‘Diwali with Potholes” at Taleigao. A similar programme was also held at Siolim on Sunday evening.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar said that motorists were facing difficulties due to potholed roads and alleged that the government had failed to repair the roads.
Congress leader Alka Lamba said that she had visited Goa three months ago and found roads full of potholes. She said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had failed to fulfil his promise that all roads wil be potholes-free by November 1.
GPYC president Adv Varad Mardolkar along with other members lit the candles in potholes and alleged that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is a habitual liar. “We protested in a unique way by lighting the candles in potholes.” Mardolkar said.
Mardolkar said that they had announced the ‘spot the potholes’ contest, which got a good response from the public. “Sawant had then promised to repair roads by November 1, but he has failed to keep his word. There still exist potholes on roads at many places,” he said.
“We felt that the State government and the officials are not able to see these potholes, hence we have lit candles in the potholes so they can at least see it.” Mardolkar said.
