PANJIM: The Public Works Department (PWD) on Wednesday submitted a plan to St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes to rehabilitate vendors, whose kiosks outside the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) were razed in July 2021.
Inacio Domnick Pereira, who is pursuing the matter with the government authorities on behalf of the aggrieved vendors, said the local MLA has informed them that an approval by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is expected after Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

“We met MLA Tony Fernandes to follow up on our demand for rehabilitation. He told us that he has received the plan prepared for rehabilitation by PWD. Now an approval from the CM is needed. We expect it to be done after Ganesh Chaturthi festival,” Pereira informed Herald.
The local MLA will also seek an appointment with the CM to take a delegation with the request to provide assistance to the displaced vendors.
The affected kiosk owners, whose structures were demolished over two months ago, had been demanding rehabilitation. During their last meeting with MLA Fernandes, the vendors had threatened to launch a protest at Azad Maidan if their demand is not met without further delay.
