PONDA: The Other Backward Class communities on Tuesday demanded with the State government to appoint a new chairman for Goa OBC Commission as the post is lying vacant after the resignation of former.

President of Rastriya OBC Mahasangh, Goa unit Madu Naik in a letter to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant pointed out that the said post is vacant since past three months after resignation of OBC Commission Chairman Adv Vishwas Satarkar with effect from February 3. However, no action has been taken by the government to constitute the State Commission for the Backward Classes consisting of 19 OBC communities in the State, who are more than 60 per cent of the State population.
He requested the Chief Minister to immediately look into the matter so that the OBC communities are not deprived of their benefits they were obtaining through the OBC Commission.
Gomantak Bhandari Samaj President Ashok Naik urged the government to immediately look into matter in the interest of OBC communities.
Copies of memorandum are also sent to Social Welfare Minister Milind Naik.
