Deputy Sarpanch Jayant Arolkar stated that the gram sabha members have called for the government and panchayat to ensure that the village gets a proper and panchayat ghar cum fish market soon given the numerous and age old issues they are facing with the current premises.
It is to be noted that the panchayat has faced great difficulty in the past due to paper work and related problems for the renovation or repair of the existing panchayat ghar cum fish market. The existing building was constructed by the RDA.
Villagers also referred to the present proposal wherein the land of the education department will be acquired for the panchayat ghar. The villagers hope that this proposal that will see the panchayat ghar shifting will not take forever and they won’t be fed with deadlines that are not kept.
Villagers added that if the renovation work has to take place at the existing place or the new place, the work should be completed soon so that the villagers can finally get better facilities.
Velim MLA Benjamin Silva when contacted by Herald stated that the file for the transfer of land from the education department to the panchayat should get done shortly and that the file has been cleared at the department level and is only awaiting final clearance from the chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar who is also the education minister.
The issue of the website that was to be launched was also raised.
and the gram sabha member questioned the promise given by the former deputy sarpanch that the website would be launched in 15 days at the last meeting. The panch clarified and said that the website would require more time and that it would take atleast 3 months for the website to come up after completing all the requisite work.
Velim Zilla panchayat (ZP) member Mancy Rodrigues also urged the gram sabha members and the panchayat to send her a proposal for any development project if the panchayat requires funds from the Zilla panchayat or any such assistance.
