Valpoi: Cattle with deadly lumpy skin disease (LSD) have been spotted in Keri, Valpoi and the locals have accused the Animal Husbandry officials of turning a deaf ear to their complaints.
Due to the ongoing outbreak of the disease throughout the country, the State government has currently stopped bringing cattle from other states. Sattari is one of the leading milk producers taluka but has been hit by the lumpy disease crisis.

The locals stated that initially they had verbally intimated the Animal Husbandry Department and later wrote to them about how the disease was rapidly spreading. However, the officials have preferred to turn a Nelson’s eye to the problem for reasons best known to them, said the irate farmers and have now appealed to the MLA Deviya Rane to look into the matter.
Lumpy skin disease is a viral disease that affects cattle and is transmitted by blood-sucking insects. It causes fever, nodules on the skin and also lead to death, especially in animals that have not been previously exposed to the virus.
