PANJIM: The North Goa Collectorate has imposed penalty on four food business operators from Mapusa and Panjim for selling sub standard products at their respective stores.
Chhaganlal Prajapati, proprietor of the firm and Netaji Vithoba Kanade, food business operator of M/s Sunder Food Products in Mapusa have been penalised for manufacturing and selling ‘fried green peas’ which were declared and reported to be sub-standard food. The Food & Drugs Administration had found the contents in the packets contained synthetic food colours identified as ‘tartrazine’ and ‘brilliant blue FCF’ which are not permitted under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 and the Rules/Regulations. The two men are slapped fine of Rs 5,000 each.
In another case, Murlidhar Rai and Savita Rai, owner of ‘M/s Canteen’ at KTC Bus Stand in Panjim were found guilty of manufacturing and selling buns that contained non-permissible colours.
The food samples were collected and tested by FDA authorities. The business operators are imposed penalty of Rs 2,500 each.
