Counting of votes of Panchayat polls today

All results expected by late evening as voting was through ballot papers

PANJIM: Who will hold the reigns in 175 village panchayats for the next five years will be known on Tuesday. 
Though 186 village panchayats went to the polls on Sunday, the results of 176 will be declared on Tuesday, while counting of votes of the other 11, which were caught up in litigation, will be taken up on July 2.
Goa recorded a 80.33 percent turnout, with the voting percentage in North Goa higher at 83.16 percent, compared to South Goa which was 77.68 percent.
While Bicholim taluka reported the highest voting percentage of 90.60 percent, Salcete taluka saw the least response with 66.84 percent.
Counting of votes will begin at 8.00am at 13 centres at the taluka level. Since 
elections were held through ballot papers, the counting is expected to continue till late evening.
Once the results are announced, the battle to head the new local governing body will begin. The government has reserved total 63 posts of Sarpanch and 62 post of deputy sarpanch for women.
The counting for 18 VPs in Pernem taluka will be held at St Joseph High School and Gram Panchayat Hall, Tuem. Similarly, for Bicholim having 16 VPs, the counting will take place at Narayan Zantye Multipurpose Sports Complex Hall. For Sattari with 12 VPs counting will take place at Auditorium Hall, Forest Training School at Valpoi.
For Bardez taluka which has 31 VPs, counting is scheduled in three phases and two different auditoriums of Government Sports Complex, Peddem Mapusa. The counting of 18VPs from Tiswadi taluka will be held at Sports Authority of Goa, Campal. 
For Ponda taluka with 20 VPs, counting will take place in three phases at Government Sports Complex, Curti. Counting for Dharbandora taluka’s five VPs will take place at Government Primary School Tamsodo and for Sanguem taluka with seven VPs the counting will be held at Government Sports Complex, Khairikatem. 
The biggest taluka Salcette having the 33 panchayats will have counting in three phases at the South Goa District Collectorate building.
For Mormugao taluka with six VPs the counting will be at Government Sports Complex, Bhutia Bhat. Quepem taluka with 11 VPs will have the counting at Sports Complex, Borimol and for Canacona taluka with seven VPs the counting will take place at Mamlatdar office.

Countermanded Chandor polls on July 1
MARGAO: Elections to ward No. 5 of Chandor Cavorim village where elections were countermanded will be held on July 1, 2017 between 8 am and 5 pm and counting of votes will be taken up on July 2.
Nominations will be accepted from June 14 to June 20 between 10 am and 1 pm. While scrutiny of nominations will be done on June 21, the date for withdrawal of forms June 22, 2017.
It may be recalled that two candidates had filed their nominations from this ward but one of them (Joaquim Piexote) died and hence the elections to this ward was countermanded.
