HC issues notices to State Govt & SWRailway over alleged illegal works on second track

PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa issued notices to the State government and the South Western Railway over alleged illegal developmental works on the second track of the railway passing through the villages of Velsao, Pale and Issorcim, in Salcete.

The notices were issued on Monday based on a writ petition filed by the Velsao Panchayat that challenged the ongoing work without approval or license from the Panchayat under the Panchayat Act, 1994. The activities in question are being undertaken as a part of the controversial project of doubling the railway line between the cities of Hubli and Vasco.
