BICHOLIM: Calling upon the farmers to make villages “swayampurna” (self-sufficient), Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Saturday urged the employed youth to also take up farming.
The CM was speaking at a function at Sanquelim during the soil health card distribution programme.

He said the government has utilised Rs 15 crore for the benefit of the farmers by constructing bunds.
“We have utilised good amount for bunds in Amona and we expect that the farmers to make good use of them. At least for next 15 years we want them to cultivate their fields,” he said.
“Besides their job, youth should also turn to farming. People should follow community farming and government is always there to help,” he told.
He also stressed on the soil health card and its use and added that ‘today integrated farming is needed and a farmer should make at least Rs three lakh profit each year.’
