Mapusa: Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds continued to lash Goa for the third day and have wreaked widespread havoc. While no casualties were reported, many houses were damage due to the uprooting of trees and leakage of roofs.
In Nachinola, Supriya Mhapsekar faced enormous hardships as the roof of her home was leaking. Part of her house was also damaged and could collapse at any moment. Along with her young children, Mhapsekar cares for a paralyzed relative who is forced to lie on the wet floor.
“We can’t afford to fix our house, there is water leakage everywhere. I also care for my paralyzed relative who is forced to sleep on the wet floor with water pouring from the roof,” says Mhapsekar.
While the people in the neighbourhood have decided to come together to help the Mhapsekars, the struggling family has requested Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira for assistance to repair their home. “We request our MLA to help us restore our house, which has also partially collapsed, ” said Mhapsekar.
