PONDA: About 100 residents from Talewada-Adcolna in Bhoma-Adcolna Panchayat have threatened to agitate in protest after accusing elected representatives of failing to construct a road for the past 10 years.
Residents complained that the existing road is over a kilometre from their houses and people have to walk through a mud path, making it difficult in times of emergencies.
“I’m 73 years old and whenever I am ill, people have to carry me on their shoulders to reach the road. After walking through the terrain of about a kilometre there is a proper tar road from where we proceed to the hospital,” said Chandrakant Satarkar.
With no access-road, villagers have to park their vehicles along the route as petrol pilferage has been reported in the area. “As our vehicles are far away from houses, unknown people steal petrol from our vehicles and it has been reported a number of times,” Rajendra Gaunekar told Herald.
Last year, the panchayat had passed a resolution for a proper road based on demands from villagers.
When contacted, Bhoma-Adcolna Deputy Sarpanch Damodar Naik said: “The panchayat has already forwarded the resolution to the PWD. The property through which villagers are demanding to construct road is a private property. We will try our best to solve the problem of the villagers.”
