MARGAO: Setting aside the Additional Director of Panchayat’s order, Sessions Court on Monday upheld the Carmona Panchayat’s stand refusing to renew the trade licence issued to a resort, which has been creating a ruckus in the village.
It may be recalled that the Carmona panchayat had refused to renew the license issued to a real estate company that built the complex on grounds that the construction licence was given for a residential purpose and the same could not be used for commercial purpose.
Aggrieved by this order, the project proponents appealed to the Additional Director of Panchayats, who ruled against the panchayat order and directed it to renew the licence.
However, the panchayat challenged this order before the district court while the villagers also filed a separate appeal against the order.
Allowing both the appeals, the District Judge set aside the order of the Additional Director of Panchayats thereby upholding the panchayat stand that a commercial activity cannot be undertaken in residential premises.
Carmona sarpanch Allwyn Jorge welcomed the court order.
