Wednesday saw vendors and hawkers doing brisk business right on the busy footpath near Mabai Hotel. They sold vegetables and fruits at ease with no municipal market inspector or worker around to crack a whip. Citizens in the know informed that the vendors had taken over the footpath since the last several days, but no action has been forthcoming from the civic body.A citizen Sanjeev Raiturcar slammed the civic body for its total indifference to the encroachments. “It appears that vendors are now emboldened to encroach upon public space anywhere in Margao for want of action from unscrupulous municipal officials. If the civic fathers and babus continue to turn a blind eye to the encroachments, a time will come when encroachments will haunt the MMC at its doorstep,” Raiturcar said.
