PANJIM: The former Union Law Minister Ramakant Khalap has urged the State government to grant ownership rights to the villagers of Shel-Melauli with regards to Alvara lands and to relocate the proposed IIT project either at the land earmarked for IT Habitat at Dona Paula or in Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
In a letter to the Chie Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Khalap has stated that the encroachers or usurpers of government land have a right to apply for regularisation of their holdings. The farmers from Sattari recently held meeting demanding ownership right with regards to Alvara land.
“The government should initiate process for regularisation of land holdings of the villagers of Shel-Melauli under the provisions of Land Revenue Code, 1968 or Decree No. 3402 applicable to Alvara lands,” Khalap said in a statement issued.
“The land earmarked for IT Habitat in the neighbourhood of Goa University would be ideal location for IIT Goa. Also, SEZ properties may also be considered,” he said.
