On the contrary, flower pots have been arranged around the sewage chamber ostensibly to block public view of the chamber.
A police constable admitted that though visitors had raised the question of the overflowing sewage chamber being unattended, there’s no action forthcoming from the concerned authorities.
A visitor told Herald that the broken chamber should be plugged immediately and the authorities should check the other sewage chambers around the district police headquarters.
“Around two years ago, policemen staying at the barracks in the district police headquarters had raised the question of sanitation with broken and dirty toilets,” a police constable said.
When Herald contacted Margao Sub-Divisional Police Officer, DySP Mohan Naik to shed light on the overflowing chamber, he said that his office had written a letter to the PWD officials looking after the upkeep and maintenance of the police station and the district police headquarters.
“I have been told that the PWD has started cleaning up the septic tanks and the sewage chambers.
There are around 4-5 septic tanks/soakptis around the police headquarters which are being cleaned up by the PWD,” DySP Naik said.
