MAPUSA: Mapusa Municipal Council had to adjourned the special meeting called for the approval of annual budget for 2017-18 after 90 percent of the budget proposals had already been presented. The adjournment came after they received a circular from the Directorate of Municipal Administration that the Election Commissioner has not granted permission for the meeting to approve the budget since the election code of conduct is in force.
The Council had asked the DMA to ask EC permission to conduct the meeting to transact routine operation of the municipalities. It was also a statutory duty to approve the annual budget a day before the last date of February as per the time table.
