MARGAO: The First Additional Civil Judge, Senior Division and Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Margao on Saturday closed the evidence in the infamous “fake cricket ticket scam” reported during India-Australia One-Day International (ODI) match, at Fatorda in April 2001.
As per the court orders, since no steps have been taken by the prosecution to prosecute the matter, the evidence of the prosecution stands closed. The court adjourned the matter for recording of statements of the accused under Section 313 of CrPC on June 6.

In another development, Special Public Prosecutor Adv V Borkar, who was present for the State filed a memo along with a letter addressed to the Under Secretary, Government of Goa withdrawing his appearance.
Adv Borkar stated that since he has already notified the State that he is withdrawing his appearance, he no longer has any instruction from the State and therefore is not in a position to take any steps in the matter. Adv R Kudalkar, Adv S Velip and Adv S Rege were present in the court.
The Margao Police had filed a chargesheet against the then Goa Cricket Association president Dayanand Narvekar and eight others in the Margao court under several Sections of IPC.
