The president of Bicholim unit Shiv Sena, Gurudas Naik, who was with agitators, said that the residents of Karapur and Vithalapur were facing acute shortage since the last several days.
“The people from Karapur and other areas are not getting tap water since last one month and the problem has been aggravated since last three days when the taps started running dry completely,” Naik said adding, “even on the day of Diwali there was no water and so the people were enraged and decided to stop the PWD workers from digging the road and demanded that higher officials should come for inspection.”
“Earlier, the PWD had dug the road almost five to six times, but it is surprising that they did not find the leakage. Due to this digging, the road is also totally damaged,” Naik said.
Angered at the indifferent attitude of the PWD officials, who started a new round of road digging on Thursday, without solving the water shortage problem, the residents blocked the labourers from carrying out the work.
PWD Assistant Engineer Prakash Surlakar, who was informed of the agitation by the workers, rushed to spot and specified the agitating people by assuring that he would ensure regular water supply at the earliest.
