PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has come down heavily on the striking lifeguards questioning their wisdom to suspend work indefinitely at the peak of the tourist season.
“It is not fair on their part to strike work when tourist footfalls in the State increase significantly. Safety of visitors to the beaches is at risk,” he said, warning the striking workers and labour unions not to take the government for granted.
Majority lifeguards of the Drishti Lifesaving Pvt Ltd are on indefinite strike from December 29, 2015 protesting government’s failure to honour its one-year-old written commitment about re-employing 17 sacked employees, raising monthly salaries from Rs 10,000 to Rs 21,000 and regularizing their services.
Denying having entered into any written agreement over their demands, Parsekar said the lifeguards should instead approach the Labour Court or Labour Commissioner to resolve the job-related matter.
