Addressing media persons in Ponda on Friday, Ponda Carnival Festival Committee (PCE) Chairman and Ponda Councillor Irvin Soares along with Deputy Chairperson Shantaram Colvekar, Councillor Venktesh Naik and Chief Officer Johnson Fernandes said PCE will organise its second four-day grand Carnival float parade at Ponda on Sunday.
The float parade will commence from Upper Bazzar at 3.30 and wend its way through Bhavani Sadan, Menino Trade Centre, Dada Vaidya Chowk, Ponda police station and culminate at Aguiar Ground at Tisk-Ponda.
PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar will flag off the float parade in the presence of Industries Minister Mahadev Naik, Factories and Boiler minister Deepak Dhavalikar, Ponda MLA Lavu Mamledar, Ponda Carnival Committee chairman and Councillor Irvin Soares and others.
On February 14, Carnival programme will begin with a comedy show by Manohar Bhingi at Tisk-Ponda at 7 pm, followed by musical performance by Dr Antonio Soares and others. On February 15, after the float parade, there will be performance by Afro dancers, followed by musical programme by Seril Fernandes and others.
On February 16, Konkani tiatr ‘Pai’ will be staged at 7 pm. On February 17, prize distribution of floats and various competitions, followed by Tiatr ‘Family Day’.
About 16 entries have been received and more are likely to participate in the float parade. Necessary traffic diversion and security measures including CCTV cameras have been arranged for smooth conduct of the float parade
