Ponda civic body officials clear footpath vendors from outside the market

Around 300 vendors that operate inside Ponda Market shed were apparently losing their business for the footpath vendors; locals relieved to have got enough space now for parking outside market

PONDA: After market shed vendors gheraoed Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) officials on Tuesday to clear footpath vendors who were eating out their business the PMC officials on Thursday as promised cleared all footpath vendors around Ponda market. The roads in front of market complex, vegetable market were seen clean and the space at roadside is being used for parking. T

The locals of Ponda as well as Amchi Vyapari Sanagatana (Market Vendors association) Secretary Gharu Sawant appreciated PMC officials for their swift action and welcomed shooing of footpath vendors. Sawant said this should not be a temporary measure but continue on permanent basis. For several decades the Ponda Market vendors opposed footpath vending or the encroachment on footpath.

Around 300 vendors that operate inside Ponda Market shed but as sopo contractor or the officials were allowing to operate vendors on footpath they suffered heavy losses as, instead of going into market shed, the customers were shopping from footpath vendors causing. Secondly due to encroachment on footpath the customers were struggling to find parking space and thus turning their back to vendors inside Market shed.

Locals too heave a sigh of relief as lot of space is now available for parking outside the market.
