Wants Horseshoe shifted out of River Mandovi

PANJIM: Reiterating its opposition to the presence of M V Horseshoe in the Mandovi River, the Congress party on Tuesday accused Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of double standards on casinos.
Addressing the media, Congress President Subhash Shirodkar said that party strongly opposed the BJP-government’s move to promote more casinos in the State and demanded that all the existing casinos be shifted from Mandovi to the deep sea.
“When Parrikar was Opposition leader he opposed casinos and questioned the then Congress government in the assembly over the issue of when the casinos would be shifted out of River Mandovi,” Shirodkar said adding that Chief Minister should be firm on his opposition.
Shirodkar said that government should not take a decision to allow the new casino Horseshoe owned by Delta Corporation to anchor in the Mandovi. Chief Minister has said that government has denied permission to the casino on that vessel even as Delta Corporation has currently applied for Consent under Water and Air Act with the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB).
Further, Shirodkar announced that AICC general secretary and Goa desk in-charge Digvijay Singh and AICC secretary Chella Kumar would be arriving on August 8. Singh would be addressing party workers on the Food Security Bill issue, while Kumar would be holding meetings in two constituencies (not finalized) on August 9.
Meanwhile, Congress has said that it would file a criminal case against Chief Minister with the Anti Corruption Bureau over government decision to cancel the admission granted to post graduate students of GMC on the basis of NEET.
