MAPUSA: Two late goals by Doyal Alves enabled Panjim Footballers register a 2-0 win over Velsao SCC, at Duler stadium, here, on Monday.
It was surprisingly that both the teams having won their last league matches played in a lacklustre first session with the keeper’s being hardly tested.
Capital side did come twice in opening their account.
U-20 Jonas Colaco placed the ball on platter to Maximo D’Costa but the latter tapped the ball out from inside the 6-yard box.
Minutes later, a delightful cross by Nicklas Noronha saw well positioned Doyal Alves’ header travel just over the cross bar.
At the other end, in the 40th minute, Velsao’s Imran Khan turned and twisted and let go a stiff grounder where the ball sneaked just past the goal post.
On resumption of play, in the 59th minute, Velsao’s K.Vinoth was right in front of the goal but saw his tap at the goal being brilliantly blocked by Panjim’s keeper Preston Rego.
Panjim’s Deep Pednekar collected a pass from Doyal Alves but shot out from handshaking distance to the dismay of his teammates.
In the 78th minute, Velsao’s Romario Da Costa dribbled inside the 18-yard box but saw his attempt being thwarted by on rushing Panjim’s keeper Preston Rego.
Velsao’s Imran Khan squandered a glorious chance to put his team ahead when he had just rival keeper to beat saw his placement travel out.
In a quick counter attack, Panjim’s Doyal Alves collected a long ball from the midfield and darted inside the 18-yard box and latched a right footer which crashed into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Doyal Alves doubled the lead in the 93rd minute connecting Nicklas Noronha square pass to make it 2-0.
