CUNCOLIM: Chandor Sports Club defeated Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club 9-8 (1-1) via sudden death to emerge champions of the Cuncolim Union Trophy, an inter-village football tournament, organised by Cuncolim Union, at Cuncolim School ground, on Sunday.
Both the teams were tied goalless at the breather.
Aggio Antao gave the lead to Sao Jose de Areal in the 40th minute capitalising on the pass received from Darryl Costa.
The lead was short lived as Sunny Fernandes equalised for Chandor SCof a pass from Joston Martins from the right flank.
Chandor SC missed goal scoring chances through Sunny Fernandes, Frazer Gomes and Louis Noronha.
Darryl Costa and Raymond Fernandes of Sao Jose de Areal SC also missed scoring chances in the last five minutes.
In the penalty shoot-out, Cruz Gomes, Moses D’Sa, Johnson Gomes, Frazer Gomes, Stanley Hadigalli, Joseph Monteiro, Sunny Fernandes and Benson Fernandes scored for Chandor SC while Aggio Antao, Samuel Costa, Joseph Monteiro, Darryl Costa, Vishal Fernandes, Mario Baretto and Neville Soares shoot at the target for Sao Jose de Areal SC.
Chandor SC were richer by Rs 40,000 and a trophy while Sao Jose de Areal SC had to be content with Rs 30,000.
Dennis Dias president of Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony and gave away the prizes in the presence of Pervis Gomes and Girijadevi Desai.
Prakash Desai president of Cuncolim Union welcomed while Dinesh Naik compared and proposed vote of thanks.
