MARGAO: Requesting the government to look into the problems of the resettled residents of Casarvarnem-Mopa in Pernem Taluka, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said these people have become victims of poor rehabilitation policy including the poor quality houses constructed for Mopa’s relocated locals.
Reginaldo said, “The 14 houses constructed near the Primary Health Centre at Casarvarnem for Mopa’s resettled people at Casarvarnem are of inferior and cheap material. Over 80 people residing in these houses are facing tough times to live in these abodes as their roofs are leaking.”
“Unlike the lush green fertile vast land in which each family had more than 20,000 sq mts in which they used to cultivate rice and “nachne” (millet) and grow over 20 varieties of vegetables every year, the compensation land is four kms away from their ancestral land is not suitable for cultivation.
Reginaldo claimed that the said 14 families of Mopa, who were resettled on November 28, 2018 in the new plots of land measuring 800 sq mts, are sad and dejected with the flawed resettlement policy. They have not yet got title documents to their property and houses measuring 100 sq mts are too small as each family has more than 15 members. The re-settlers feel that the authorities did not include the wives of each household while making plan for new houses. The present roof of each house is a sloping one and an additional floor cannot be constructed.
“To make the soil cultivable, the promise made by the authorities of putting soil of one metre in height has not been fulfilled till date,” he claimed further.
“Though job was given to one member of each of the 14 families despite the promise of annual increment, there has been no increment in their salary for the past two years by their employer, GMR, the company constructing MOPA airport,” he alleged.
“I request the government to look into the aforesaid concerns of these 14 families, who were forced to vacate their nature blessed ancestral fertile land for the construction of Mopa Airport, which incidentally is being constructed on prized 78.48 lakh sq mts of land and sadly today it has become a completely fortified secured zone for the visit by Goans,” Reginaldo urged.
