MARGAO: Eight Curtorim residents have been arrested for rioting, assault, outraging the modesty of a woman, and damaging a private and police vehicle at Cabo de Rama, Canacona on Wednesday.
According to Cuncolim police, they received a complaint alleging that between 2.30 pm and 6.30 pm, the eight accused formed an unlawful assembly and armed themselves with stones.
One of the accused, Alex Fernandes, assaulted the complainant’s 10-year-old son. He and one Began Fernandes, also molested the complainant and assaulted her cousin, besides damaging a Swift car, causing a loss of Rs 10,000. They assaulted the police, damaged their van and pelted stones at them due to which a police driver was injured. The accused are: Joel Fernandes, Renno Fernandes, Myson Fernandes, Linoy Carvalho, Began Fernandes, Neville Fernandes, Christopher Mascarenhas and Alex Fernandes.
They are in judicial custody.
Cuncolim police have booked them under Sections 143, 147, 148, 354-A, 323, 353, 332, 337, 504, 509, 427 r/w 149 of IPC, Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act, and Section 3 of Prevention of Destruction of Public Property (PDPP) Act. The case is under investigation.
