After lying low for some time, the Margao Municipal Council on Thursday cracked a whip against illegal hutments and structures in the city.
A Municipal team under police protection this afternoon razed down a temporary structure that had come up at Borda. Civic officials said the structure was earlier demolished by the Civic body, but was re-built.
The team of Municipal workers later moved towards the KTC bus stand and removed the illegal shanties. Similar structures were flattened near the Old market circle.
Chief Officer Y B Tawde informed that the drive against illegal structures and hutments would continue in the future.
The Margao Civic body has last carried out a demolition exercise after the Election code of conduct. Saying that the Civic body was aware of the fact that the hutments had mushroomed in certain pockets, Tawde said the Municipality would initiate action against all illegal structures in the city.
