MARGAO: South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar has said that the party candidates fielded in the three ZP constituencies in Salcete and Mormugao takukas should romp home with a comfortable margin.
Addressing the media in the presence of the party candidates for the Davorlim seat Ulhas Tuenkar, Sanjana Velip (Guirdolim) and Olancio Simoes (Cortalim) and Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik, the MP said all the three candidates contesting the ZP polls on the BJP banner have received encouraging response in the three constituencies. He said the people of Goa will vote for the Alliance candidates taking into account the performance of the BJP government ruling the State. “Our ministers and MLAs and party leaders and workers are all working for the Alliance candidates. I am sure the Alliance candidates will romp home in the elections”, he said.
The South Goa MP said that performance of the Narendra Modi government at the centre will also help the party in the ZP polls. “The government has made a provision in the Union budget for the Old Goa heritage structures. We are also pursuing with Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to take up construction of flyovers at the railway crossings at Cansualim, Chandor, Curchorem. The centre has embarked on a plan to revive the Goa Shipyard Ltd by placing an order of Rs 32,000 crore, which will help create new jobs. Goa will get funds to the tune of Rs 1800 crore with the Centre deciding to implement the 14th Finance commission report,” he said.
Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik said that implementation of the various schemes for the people will keep the BJP candidates in good stead in the coming elections.
Sawaikar said that issues such as Ghar Vapsi and beef shortage will not influence the voters, saying vested interests are involved in spread rumous. “The BJP is not responsible for the shortage. The Meant complex is undergoing renovation and upgradation”, he said.
Asked whether the BJP is in favour of implementing Cow slaughter ban on the lines of Maharashtra, Sawaikar said the Goa already has a law in place enacted way back in 1995, which at the moment is enough to take care of the requirements.
