Budget Reaction

Manohar Parrikar:  Reacting to the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said, “There is nothing in the budget. It is only statement of facts and hopes, nothing more than that. Prime assets have been liquidated to quite an extent.”

“Of the total Rs 15 lakh crore budget, Rs 6 lakh crore approx will come from borrowing. The Union Finance Minister said the fiscal deficit (for 2012-13) has been estimated at 5.2 per cent, which he has proposed to bring down to 4.8per cent (by 2013-14). I don’t think it will happen. The fiscal deficit will be more than 5.2 per cent,” Parrikar opined.

Subhash Shirodkar:  GPCC president Subhash Shirodkar on the other hand praised the union budget saying, “It’s a very good budget from all aspects. There has been no new taxation and at the same time women’s safety has been given importance. Special attention has been paid to backward class people by providing huge funds. This will give a boost to them financially. The budget is completely based on a golden principle ‘those who got have to contribute for those who have not got’. “

“As far as Goa is concerned, yes there is nothing specific but I feel as and when demands have been made, the funds are provided. Our main demand was for special status and I feel it is not an easy task. The financial package for mining dependents would be provided in due course of time,” Shirodkar said.
