PANJIM: Taking a look at a video circulating on social media of fish struggling for life at the ferry point in Panjim, Fisheries Minister Vinod Palyekar on Wednesday said he will ask his department to ask NIO to investigate whether the oxygen level has been decreasing in River Mandovi.
The video circulating on social media showed people carrying away fish that had washed ashore at the ferry wharf in Panjim.
Speaking to Herald, Palyekar said, “I will ask my department to ask NIO or any other similar agency to investigate whether oxygen level has decreased in the river. This is a rare thing that has happened.”
Herald also spoke to the Fisheries Department, but an official said they were not aware of such an occurrence.
“I am not aware of this and I got to see the video from your team. Our department was also not aware of such a sight,” Fisheries Deputy Director Chandrakant Velip said.
