VALPOI: Nineteen cow skulls were recovered near a cashew factory, in Valpoi, on Thursday.
Govansh Suraksha Abhiyan, which found the skulls, has filed a complaint at the Valpoi police station.
Later, the police visited the site and excavated 17 cow skeletons and cow skin.
Govansh Suraksha Abhiyan President Hanuman Parab has alleged that, since last six years, illegal cow slaughtering has been going on in Valpoi town.
He demanded that an investigation be launched to track down those who slaughtered the cows illegally. “We will wait for few days for the authorities to track down the culprits. If they fail, we will hold a meeting to decide our further course of action,” Parab said.
Meanwhile, police said that they conducted a panchnama and would check with the Goa Meat Complex whether it disposed the skulls there.
“We have recovered 17 cow skeletons. We have not yet confirmed that these 17 cows were illegally slaughtered. We will check with the Goa Meat Complex, after which we will come to know the fact. If permission had been taken from the Goa Meat Complex for slaughtering the cows, then, we will not file a case. If not, we will file a case,” Valpoi Police Inspector Sagar Ekoskar said.
