Navelim SC down Betalbatim, in finals

BENAULIM: Navelim Sporting Club defeated Goa Velha Sports Club 1-0 storm into the finals of the 31st Strikers Trophy Soccer Tournament organized by Young Strikers Benaulim, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Tuesday.

Both the teams jostled for supremacy and it need little less than half hour to create the first goal scoring opportunity which fell for Navelim SC but striker Avlon Gomes delayed in taking a shot and was promptly dispossessed by Goa Velha SC stopper back Melroy Silva. 
Thereafter as the going gets tougher Anthony Pereira and Aldric Coelho tried long range shots which did not trouble Goa Velha SC goalkeeper Agnelo Silva. 
Goa Velha SC did nothing except for Vishant Pednekar free kick which was paired away by Navelim SC Goalkeeper Shilton Fernandes. 
Navelim SC were more forceful after resumption and found the breakthrough in the 56th Minute through a beautifully worked out goal. 
Striker Aldric Coelho and Avlon Gomes linked up with the latest cleaver layoff inside the box was buried inside the nylons with a thunderous right footer by medio Alvito Colaco giving no chance to Goa Velha SC goalkeeper Agnelo. 
The goal brought out the best from Goa Velha SC team but striker Arun Nailk missed a simplest of chance by not placing the ball from just 5 yard out following a defence splitting pass by Suresh Thapa in the 62nd minute. 
The disappointment of the miss opportunity hardly died down but what followed next was even worse for the Goa Velha SC supporters. 
Striker Chatur Naik sped on the right flank taking along two rival defenders and as the Navelim SC goalkeeper Shilton charged out he squared the ball to unmarked Vishant Pednekar in the box however the veteran player connected very tamely allowing Rohan Pereira the last defender of Navelim SC to clear the ball off the line with just two minutes remaining for the final hooter.
