MARGAO: BJP spokesman Damu Naik on Monday dared Congress MLAs and leaders to take their grievances to the people instead of petitioning the same to the Governor.
“These people have no right to make complaints when they are responsible for the mess in the State. Let them come to the people and air their grievances rather than making petitions to the Governor”, Damu said, while addressing a press conference at his office at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
He said that the Congress cannot face the people after having destroyed the State and looted the exchequer during the last seven years-and-half and demanded to know the Congress regime could not come out with a residual income scheme for the citizens if they were so much concerned about the aam admi.
“The Congress is taking up issues such as delay in issuing power and water bills. But, I want to ask Congress leaders why their government failed to come out a spot billing system a la Gujarat”, he added.
On the mining sector, Damu said one thing which needs to be realised by all the stakeholders and other citizens that mining would come to an end one day.
“Against this backdrop, there’s a need to develop other sectors such as tourism, agriculture, non-polluting industries which would sustain the economy in the hinterland areas”, he said.
On the law and order front when crimes against women, besides burglaries and theft showing a manifold rise, the BJP spokesman said the cases might have witnessed a jump because the government believes in the registration of all complaints lodged by citizens.
He replied in the negative when asked whether intelligence failure has resulted in a poor detection rate.
“The detection rate has not gone down in the last one year. Besides, the government has taken the initiative to recruit additional manpower and the process is currently underway”, he said, and warned that BJP workers would not lag behind in taking morchas at the police stations if any incident of refusal to register cases is brought to light.
Replying to a question on corruption, Damu said the citizens and media should join hands and help the government to curb corruption.
He denied corruption under the BJP rule, but hastened to add that elected representatives should bring to the notice of the government instances of corruption for immediate action.
