OLD GOA: The power officials directed a builder for the second time to stop the work of installing a transformer at Corlim, after work on the transformer was restarted on Tuesday, as it was done without the necessary approval from the electricity department.
The matter was brought to the notice of the electricity department, a week back, by the Corlim Civic and Consumer Forum (CCCF), which threatened to lodge a police complaint if the work was not stopped immediately.
Adhering to the directives, the builder had then stopped the work on installation of the transformer.
However, on Tuesday morning, the labourers returned back at the site and restarted the installation work.
Speaking to Herald,Corlim Civic and Consumer Forum Secretary Baptist Pereira informed that on noticing the activity he immediately called up a Corlim sub station official who informed that the department is not aware of the same as directions have been issued to the builder to stop work.
When contacted, AE Rao said he has already directed the builder not to commence work on the transformer. “If the builder violates my directive, I will file a criminal complaint against the builder,” Rao added.
Later, when Herald visited the site again in the afternoon, the work on the transformer was stopped.
However, Pereira raised questions as to how the builder can install a transformer in public property when it will be used to provide electricity for his project.
“The transformer has to be installed inside the builder’s property and the entire cost of the installation of the transformer has to be borne by him,” he added.
Herald tried to contact the builder for his say in the matter, but his mobile phone was switched off. When his office was contacted, the staff told that he is out of station.
