PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar laid the foundation stone for development works proposed to be undertaken at Mayem Lake.
The project is being implemented by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Goa Tourism Development Corporation’s Project Cell. The total project cost is Rs 8.93 crore under which an area of 13,333 sq mts will be developed at Mayem Lake by project contractor M/s Bagkiya Constructions Pvt Ltd and project consultant M/s Fourth Dimension Architect Pvt Ltd in a year’s time.
Parsekar said the government is ensuring that new facilities are put in place so that the area is made more attractive and brings more tourists to Mayem lake.
The development works proposed to be undertaken includes improvement of existing infrastructure and addition of new components some of which include a grand entrance, more parking area, a cafeteria and coffee deck. The old cafeteria will be replaced with a new one designed to have a large outdoor deck for seating.
An amphitheatre with a capacity for 120 persons for local audience is also part of the development works. Potters hut, souvenir shop and pergola are some of the other things envisaged.
Next to the amphitheatre, a dedicated area for pottery is being designed, which is a specialty of Mayem village. Here local artisans can exhibit as well as sell their work.
Children visiting Mayem lake will get to enjoy the ‘Mirror Maze’ for recreation. The maze will be air-conditioned providing a hilarious experience for children and visitors.
