PANJIM: Amidst the ongoing crackdown on the drug trade in the State and in another attempt to wipe out the source of drugs, Goa Police has decided to hold a joint meeting with the Kullu (Himachal Pradesh) and Ajmer (Rajasthan) officers to prepare a detailed strategy to tackle the menace this month.
Goa saw several arrests wherein alleged drug peddlers have confessed of trafficking drugs like cocaine, ganja, heroin, etc, from various parts of Himachal Pradesh and adjoining areas.
Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh mentioned about the meeting during a Western Regional Police Coordination Committee conference organised by Goa Police on Friday. In a statement issued later during the day, the department revealed that participants at the conference were requested to share data on drug peddlers as part of the joint initiative to curb the menace.
“The ANC of Goa Police is hosting a meeting of SPs of Kullu and Ajmer in the third week of March 2018 to formulate a joint strategy to tackle drug menace in the State,” it said.
Goa Police also shared data of wanted criminals of other states with the officers present at the meeting. In view of the large number of cases related to ATMs in the western region, the officers discussed ATM card cloning and measures to be taken to prevent recurrence. “Goa Police has written to all banks having ATMs in Goa to strengthen the security measures in the ATM premises,” Goa Police said.
The attendees agreed that concerted efforts are required to sensitise banks and the insurance industry. They also recommended that district SPs of neighbouring states should periodically meet to share data on criminals and inter-state gangs and formulate joint strategies to tackle border crime.
Officers from RPF and Konkan Railway emphasised on action on thefts of properties of rail passengers.
Director General of Police Muktesh Chander made a detailed presentation on the Goa Police Traffic Sentinel Scheme while issues related to cyber crime, fake SIM cards, inter-state fake arms licences and sharing of data of absconding and wanted criminals were also highlighted.
