MARGAO: Verna Sports Club came from behind to defeat Parish Youth, Nuvem 2-1 in the Salcete Zone GFA’s 3rd Division League, at Betalbatim Sports Complex, Tuesday. The teams were tied 1-1 at half time.
Parish Youth went on the offensive and broke the deadlock in the 9th minute when Santan Colaco bulged the net giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper.
Stung by the early reversal, Verna Sports Club went into attacking mode and trouble the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. Persistent forays paid off the dividends when Brian Costa neutralized the lead with snap shot in the 30th minute.
With the score list reading 1-1 draw, the teams adopted aggrieve approach but defenders stood tall in protecting their citadel.
Post resumption, the teams showed urgency and raided each other’s citadel but goalkeepers were brilliant in bringing out super saves.
With the match heading for draw, Alliston Carvalho struck the match winner for Verna in the 85th minute. Carvalho picked up the ball from his own half and unleashed a stiff grounder which crashed into the net keeping rival goalkeeper dazed.
Loutolim hold Raitura
At Manora ground, Raia, Social Cultural Club of Loutolim came from behind to hold Raitura Sports Club to a 2-2 draw.
Raitura dominated the game and took the lead in the 8th minute when striker Raymond Fernandes outwitted couple of defenders and punted the ball to the far corner of the net. Raitura slackened their pace and allowed the pressure as their opponents launched barrage of attacks, Sheldon Fernandes put his team on equal terms in the 43rd minute when he fired home from just outside the rival penalty box.
Crossing over, Raitura piled on the pressure and fired some sorties against the rival citadel. Rimon Fernandes put his team into the lead in the 50th minute. Stunned by the lead, Loutolim intensified their attacks. Steve Fernandes restored parity in the 62nd minute.
Davorlim score win
At DYSA ground, Curtorim, giving fine display, Sporting Club of Davorlim registered a 3-1 win over Maina Sports Club. Davorlim led 2-1 at lemon break.
Davorlim played confidently and relied on short passing and quick counter attacks. Davorlim did not wait for long and took the lead in the 5th minute when Liston Colaco beat the rival goalkeeper with rasping shot.
Spurred by the early success, Davorlim trouble the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. Inacio Colaco doubled the lead in the 23rdminute.
Shocked by the double blows, Maina went all out and succeeded in reducing the deficit when Shamba Kuttikar beat the rival goalkeeper with clinical finish in the 34th minute.
Unfazed, Davorlim continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges. After a couple of misses by the forwards, Ashash D’Souza put the issue beyond doubt when he beat the rival goalkeeper with deft placement.
