PANJIM: Congress on Tuesday advised the State government to approach National Green Tribunal (NGT) pleading to vacate stay granted on implementation of Beach Shack Policy 2019-22.
Addressing media persons, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesperson Tulio De Souza said that government should not rush to finalise the coastal zone management plan (CZMP) as it is “impossible to complete it within the deadline of November 15 set by NGT.”
“Finalising CZMP in a hurry would have severe implications on future of Goa,” he said adding that government has already wasted lot of time and deadlines given by NGT since April 30, 2018.
He said that “as far as shack policy is concerned, government should seek for interim relief.”
De Souza said that the government should plead with NGT to grant interim relief by allowing it to implement the shack policy. “Government should put forth the ground reality and how tourism industry and people dependent on it will suffer,” he said.
Meanwhile, the party has shot back at Goa Forward Party (GFP) for attacking its President Girish Chodankar. “Attack on our party President is on account of realisation that the BJP bosses have closed the doors for GFP and have taken their trademark U-turn on their assurance to re-induct Vijai Sardesai into Cabinet,” spokesperson Urfan Mulla said.
