Goa mining under fire, HC serves notice to Goa Foundation

The Goa High Court has issued notice regarding a PIL filed by the Goa Foundation, which seeks the suspension of all post-monsoon mining operations in the state, citing a total collapse of regulatory mechanisms. The hearing is scheduled for September 18, 2025.

The Foundation’s plea seeks Court intervention to ensure compliance with Supreme Court directions and statutory provisions under the MMDR Act, 1957, the Goa Mineral Policy, 2013, and the Goa Mineral Rules, 2013. The PIL also demands interim reliefs such as 24×7 monitoring personnel, the establishment of an independent ore-grading lab, verification of mining production and pricing data, and a grievance redressal system for impacted villages.
