VASCO: Goencho Ekvott has extended support to Freddy Travasso, a local leader from Sao Jose de Areal, who stood up for the cause of farmers when the South Western Railway (SWR) employees were involved in the alleged dumping of mud into paddy fields.

Goencho Ekvott team consisting of Convenor Creson Antao, Executive Committee members Orville Dourado Rodrigues, Captain Francis Gouveia and Denver Dourado Rodrigues visited Sao Jose de Areal to express their solidarity with Travasso.
In a press release GE stated that Travasso who stood up for the cause of farmers against South Western Railway employees involved in the alleged dumping of mud and other waste materials.
He ensured that the SWR employees and their contractors made a hasty retreat along with their heavy machinery and trucks after not being able to provide satisfactory explanation and any official documentation to support their works in the village, the release states.
Further, Goencho Ekvott has assured Travasso and all the affected people in other villages and towns too of their continued support in the struggle against the forces, out to destroy the livelihood and the pristine environment of Goa.
During the inspection, Goencho Ekvott came across local farmers among them namely Domingo who has suffered extensive damage to his paddy fields due to the rundown of slurry from the railway construction works which has inundated their paddy fields causing them great distress and financial losses, it added.
