MARGAO: It’s nearly a week since the 12-member group of Margao Municipal Councillors had petitioned to scrap the controversial e-tender, but there’s still no response from the government till date.
In another development, Monday’s meeting of the Margao Municipal Council hangs in balance as the Chief Officer Deepali Naik is still convalescing at a city-based private hospital with problems relating to pressure.
The 12-member group had petitioned to the Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar to scrap the e-tender and order a probe, citing various discrepancies and irregularities. Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesa had also joined the bandwagon to demand scrapping of the e-tender, but neither the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) nor the Vigilance department has called for the files over allegations of duplication of works in certain wards.
The government’s silence may put the Civic administration in a tight spot in respect of how to go about the works where the works stands already executed.
Meanwhile, Monday’s Council’s meeting hangs in balance as the Chief Officer is still undergoing treatment in a private hospital and the question over her discharge will be known only after receiving reports tomorrow.
There’s speculations in the Civic body on Sunday that the government may ask the Civic body to postpone tomorrow’s meeting since it comes just four days before the election of a new Chairperson scheduled on October 4.
