PONDA: The Pune Police team (ATS), investigating into anti-superstition activist Dr Narendra Dabholkar murder case, late Tuesday night interrogated one of the accused arrested by Ponda Police in connection with kidnapping and use of fire arm at Curti-Ponda.
The five-member Pune Police (ATS) team led by PI Milind Gaikwad, which reached at about 9 pm on Tuesday interrogated the accused Narayan Janal for over two hours and recorded the statements.
Meanwhile, another Pune Police team (crime branch) also reached Ponda on Wednesday afternoon. Since the accused was already interrogated by the ATS team, the Crime Branch team left with a FIR copy of the case registered against Janal and three others at Ponda Police station.
It may be recalled that Ponda Police on Monday arrested four persons from Pune on charges of kidnapping, trespass and use of fire arm at Curti.
Incidentally, the accused arrested include parents and an uncle of the victim girl, while the fourth is believed to have been hired by the parents and uncle.
The 19-year-old girl from Pune had reportedly married a 21-year-old man against the wishes of her parents. One of the four accused, Janal, removed pistol when the neighbours intervened, while the couple was being forcibly taken away.
Janal, being a resident of Pune, Ponda Police contacted Pune Police to obtain his antecedents. The pistol according to Ponda Police is country made (7.65 bore) and was similar to that used to gun down anti-superstition activist Dr Narendra Dhabolkar in August.
The Pune Police team (ATS) was tight lipped over the investigation however sources informed that Pune Police so far attached as many as 15 similar such pistols.
Meanwhile, Ponda Police informed that a police team will be sent to Bihar to ascertain the authenticity of the pistol licence and another team to West Bengal to ascertain from where the bullets have been purchased by the accused Janal.
Ponda Police also informed that the pistol will be sent to the forensic laboratory to ascertain whether the pistol has been used.
