Four employees including a staff nurse diagnosed with the viral fever

MARGAO: Dengue has raised its ugly head in the ESI Hospital, Margao with as many as four employees, including a staff nurse, being diagnosed for suspected dengue fever.
Confirming the incident, Labour Commissioner Fatima Rodrigues told Herald that her office has received a report from the ESI hospital that four of the hospital employees have been hit by dengue fever. Rodrigues said that the health authorities have started fogging operations in and around the hospital premises as a precautionary measure. “One suspected dengue case was detected on November 4, while three cases came to light on Tuesday,” she added.
It is learnt that while one patient was undergoing treatment at the Hospicio hospital, the remaining patients were admitted in a city-based private hospital. Relatives of one of the patient admitted in a city hospital told Herald that their men have headed to the GMC Bambolim to get blood platelets.
Dr Vishwajit Faldessai said around four suspected dengue cases have come to light in the last two days, but hastened to add that the health authorities are trying to ascertain the source. “Construction work on the new ESI hospital is almost complete and we plan to commission the hospital in January. Just a few workers are engage in the activity,” Dr Faldessai added.
Given the situation, both the Margao Urban Health Centre and the Curtorim Primary Health Centre has started fogging exercise. Margao Urban Health Centre, Dr Sanjay Dalvi informed that since one of the suspected dengue fever patient was putting up in the hospital staff quarters, they have already done the fogging operations in the hospital premises. “The four patients have suspected dengue fever. We will know the exact position in a day or two,” Dr Dalvi said.
His Curtorim counterpart, Dr Rajendra Borkar told Herald that health officials have already done the fogging operations in Mandopa-Navelim, the residence of the ESI hospital staff nurse. “We have received two suspected dengue cases from Telaulim-Navelim. Our field works are ascertaining whether they are employed with the ESI hospital. Anyway, we will start the operations at Telaulim on Thursday,” Dr Borkar said.
A visit to the new ESI hospital which is nearing completion showed many a abandoned bottle and bucket filled with water.
